Millie

Pardon my nitpicking, but I think it's illegal for him to ask you that, even if it is for a Christian school bookkeeping job.

So you're thinking you won't get the job, probably. :)

Millie

P.S. Imagine if you'd told him you were pagan or Wiccan. ;)

Or maybe now he'll think he has to hire you, so as to avoid the appearance of having discriminated against a person for her religion.

Why do people even care? Why, Why, Why?

sarah

I forgot to say that I am so looking forward to the day when I can start contemplating a job. Four more years and counting.

I agree that I think it's illegal for him to ask you what religion you are. Even if it's not, it has nothing to do with being able to do the job that he wants you to do. It's stuff like this that just drives me up the wall.

Sketchy

Millie & Sue - yeah you're right, it is. But I'm going to treat it as an opportunity to show him that there are decent members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Of course, I'd prefer to have that opportunity over a longer period of time. But I appreciate your support!

Millie 2 - Ha! Wiccan! That would have served him right!

Sarah - See you are the hopeful one. Somehow I'm not sure that idea that he was evidencing religious discrimination is something that will cross his mind. He seemed like a decent person, but a bit of a good 'ole boy. We'll see.

Sarah 2 - So was I, but then when I've finally gotten here, it's been harder to do than I thought. But I think we'll find a way to transition.

I didn't grow up in the church and I've never had anti-LDS stuff directed at me. But, a friend of mine who homeschools and lives out in the country tried to join the Homeschool Support group out there thinking it would be good for her kids to have friends close to her home. That group meets at a church and they told her that as a Mormon family they certainly would NOT be welcome to join them. She was flustered and pissed off at the same time.

That was a couple years ago. A few of the members of that other group have seen her and her kids around their little town and apologized for the decision but holy crap, I can't imagine how people of faith treat other people of faith in this manner. :(

(I hope the prospective employer can rise above his initial reaction and hire you because you are teh awesome, sketchy!)

Ann

Good luck with the job! I hope you get it. :)

OMG!! Didn't think it was possible for anyone to make such an obvious non-PC gaffe in this day and age!! Wowzers. You might get the job just to avoid a lawsuit, and THEN you will have the opportunity to show them you don't have horns. (Did you ask if you prayed first, or took care of the emergency then prayed?? AND that the prayer would be in the name of Jesus Christ?? LOL Gotta love it. So been there though, and I chose to do nothing. It was for a job I really, really wanted...and I had been called back for a second interview and told it was between me and one other person, but that other person was PG (huh?) and they didn't think she would be permanent, and yadda, yadda, basically telling me that the job was mine. Long story short the R question killed it for me.

Jan

Yikes! I didn't think that it matters anymore. Have you heard anything back yet?
